7-Day Countdown

  • Day 7–5: Non-essentials (decor, books, off-season clothes).
  • Day 4–3: Kitchen overflow, guest rooms, garage.
  • Day 2: Bedrooms, office, electronics (photograph wiring).
  • Day 1: Everyday items, “Open First” kit, pet supplies. Empty fridge/freezer.

Room-by-Room Tips

Kitchen

  • Use dish barrels with paper between every layer.
  • Bundle knives with guards; label “Sharp”.
  • Keep one small box of essentials for the first night.

Bedroom & Closet

  • Wardrobe cartons keep clothes clean and wrinkle-free.
  • Pack a separate linen set and pajamas into your “Open First” kit.

Living Room

  • Photo the back of TVs before you disconnect cables.
  • Use picture/mirror cartons for glass and art.

Labeling System (that actually works)

Use Room → Contents → Priority and mark at least three sides. Add a bright colored sticker for each room to speed up staging at the new place.

“If you can read the label from any side of the box, you just saved yourself five steps.”

What NOT to Pack on the Truck

  • Passports, meds, jewelry, important documents
  • Pressurized cans, bleach, paint, flammables
  • Perishables (clear out fridge 24 hours prior)
